Music

Welcome!

PLEASE NOTE: The Department of Music and the Department of Theatre have merged into the one department of Music and Theatre (MUTA). As we are currently working on merging our two web pages together, for information about our Theatre and Musical Theatre program please go here.

The Music Department at California State University, Chico offers excellent curricular programs and opportunities for a variety of career objectives. Students take a core of classes intended to give them a basic understating of music theory, history, ear training, keyboard proficiencies, and technologies. The degree options allow students to choose areas of specialization.

The BA in Music offers two options or areas of emphasis, each sharing a common core of classes in music theory and history. For those who wish to teach music in the K-12 system we have the Option in Music Education. The Option in General Music allows a student (with an advisor) to develop a more wide-ranging course of study including; music composition, jazz studies, performance, and more.

The BA in Music Industry & Technology offers two options. The Option in Music Industry fits those who wish to pursue a career in music business while the Option in Recording Arts is for those who would like to work with both the technical and artistic aspects of music.

The Music Department is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
