Ensembles
Bands
As a part of the Chico State Department of Music, the Band Program provides
goal orientated students with a vehicle in which to reach their dreams.
All students, both music and non-music majors, are given the opportunity
to express themselves musically in a friendly yet challenging environment,
created to bring out the talents and strengths of each performer. This
atmosphere provides a social community where students can commune, creating
a working environment that helps shape student's personal and social
growth, making university life a more enjoyable, fruitful, and significant
experience.

Choral
Ensembles
Chico State choral organizations have a rich history of outstanding
concerts and are respected for consistently high performance standards.
Each choir performs in at least one major concert a semester and participates
in a variety of other activities, including extra concerts, retreats,
fundraisers, and performing tours.
Three ensembles offer a wide range of
repertoire and performance opportunities for choral singers. University
Chorus, composed of nearly 100 student and community members, specializes
in large choral masterworks and often performs with the orchestra. A
Cappella Choir, an auditioned ensemble of approximately 65 students,
explores a diverse repertoire of quality vocal music from the seventeenth
to the twenty-first centuries. Chamber Singers -- a small ensemble of
typically 20 students who are also members of A Cappella Choir -- focuses
on innovative performances of challenging choral literature that is
varied in style, international in scope, and rich in depth and excellence.
A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers tour regularly, and are available
for run-out concerts and school visitations.
At times, all choirs are combined to create
a large performing ensemble of nearly 200 voices known as the Choral
Union. This ensemble is featured each year in the Music Department holiday
extravaganza and scholarship fundraising concert, "Glorious Sounds
of the Season."
All choral ensembles are open to all Chico
State students

Opera Workshop
The Opera Workshop program at Chico State offers young, talented singers
the opportunity to perform a wide variety of opera and operetta music.
Students may participate in glorious fully staged productions as well
as smaller scenes from operas. Private voice and coaching lessons are
available to music majors and music minors to develop the vocal skills,
acting, and technique needed for these demanding rolls and musical styles.
Recent major productions include Mozart's "La Nozze di Figaro," Puccini's
"La Bohème," and Verdi's "La Traviata."
