How to apply for Recording Arts for the 2014-2015 Academic Year

Admission to the Recording Arts Option is competitive and based on scores received in the supplementary criteria.

Before applying make sure you have completed (or in the process of completing) the following supplemental criteria. CSU Chico students and transfer applicants must earn a minimum grade of C (or better) in prerequisite courses.

  • MUSC 101 – Theory I
  • MUSC 102 – Theory II
  • MUSC 109 – Introduction to Music Technology

In order to qualify, students must submit a video interview:

  • Video Interview - You have 5 minutes to tell us a little about yourself, why you would like to be a part of the Recording Arts Option, and how the major might serve your future career choice in the audio industry. (Your 5 minute video needs to be posted to YouTube)

An overall college GPA of 2.50 (or better) is required.

How do you apply?

  • All applications are submitted online

How are applicants selected and notified?

  • Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic performance in prerequisite courses, GPA, and score on essay. Extra points can be gained based on musical ability. (Jury forms are available online or at Keith Seppanen’s office door - PAC 209).
    • Jury evaluations may be done by the appropriate faculty member(s):
      • Voice: Dr. Scholz
      • Piano: Dr. Shkoda
      • Guitar: Prof Roye
      • Low Brass: Dr. Roby
      • Trumpet: Prof. Rocky Winslow or Prof. Rick Winslow
      • Clarinet: Prof. Heimlich
      • Flute: Prof. Ronen
      • Percussion: Prof. Kinkle
  • Applicants will be notified via Wildcat E-mail after grades have been submitted and verified at the conclusion of the Spring Semester.

Application Procedure

  • Online applications are due by 5:00pm - Friday, May 2, 2014.
    • Note: Your application will be timestamped upon submittal. Any application submitted after this time/date will not be accepted for review.
    • Please do not solicit the office or advisors on the status of your application. You will be informed via Wildcat-Email as to whether or not you have been accepted into the program.
  • Submit a video interview about yourself, what brings you to the recording arts, what are your goals while in the option, and what are your plans for the future?
  • Complete the Recording Arts Application.
  • Be sure you have included your video before submitting your application.
  • If you will be completing a jury form for a performance evaluation, submit it to the Music Department office (PAC 106) by Friday, May 2nd - 4:00pm.
