Current Music Student Scholarship Information

Auditions and Interviews for the 2017-2018 scholarship year will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 (see below for more information).

Applicants must be full-time students – 12 units minimum

Please be aware that it is not necessary you complete the University Scholarship Application prior to completing the Department of Music and Theatre Application nor before you audition or interview. However, you will not be able to receive your monetary award without completing this step.

Important Dates

January 2, 2017

  • Scholarship Applications open for the University and the Department of Music and Theatre

January 30, 2017

  • University Scholarship Application is due and is mandatory for all current students (you must bring verification of submission of University Scholarship Application to your audition or interview). It is recommended that each student submits a letter of recommendation with their University Scholarship application in addition to completing an audition/interview/portfolio. By doing so, it opens up other university scholarship opportunities other than what the department has to offer.
NOTE: Although the university’s deadline is February 15th, if you are applying for a Music and Theatre Department scholarship. you must complete the University Scholarship application before your audition and bring verification that you have done so.  No verification, no audition/interview.

January 27, 2017

  • Request for Live Auditions and Interviews must be submitted by Friday, January 27, 2017 at 12:59 p.m. Sign up using the MUTA Audition/Interview Request & Submission Form starting January 2, 2016. You will be notified of your assigned meeting time via email.
  • Students interested in a Music Industry or Recording Arts scholarship do not need to audition. Music Industry or Recording Arts scholarships are based on interviews only. Interview times will be assigned via email. Please check your email.

January 27, 2017

  • If you are studying abroad or otherwise unable to attend the live auditions/interviews, all video and audio recorded auditions must be submitted by Friday January 27, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. to be fully considered. To do so, use the MUTA Audition/Interview Request & Submission Form starting January 2, 2016.

January 28, 2017

  • Auditions and interviews will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 - No verification no audition/interview.
  • Instrumental: PAC 132 
    • Woodwinds: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
    • Brass and String Bass: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    • Percussion: 12:00 - 12:30 p.m.
    • Jazz Winds and Rhythm Section (kit, bass, guitar, piano): 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. 
    • Guitar: 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
  • Piano: PAC 134 - 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
  • Vocal: PAC 134 – 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Recording Arts and Music Industry Interviews: PAC 112 – 10:00-2:00
