Element 3: Experiences Working with Diverse Candidates
Almost 16,000 students attend the university, including approximately 1500 graduate students. Of these students, 98% come from California, with approximately 40% coming from CSU, Chico's service area, 34% from other areas of Northern California, 12% from Central California, and 11% from Southern California. Approximately 2% of the student population is comprised of out-of-state and international students. The students coming from our service area reflect the low levels of ethnic diversity that characterize the region, and, traditionally, the students attracted to our university from other parts of the state and country have tended to be largely suburban and middle-class, but this is slowly changing. The demographics of the student population in the School of Education mirrors that of the university and the service area.
