Element 7: Student Learning for Teacher Candidates

Teacher candidates focus on student learning as shown in their assessment of student learning, use of assessments in instruction, and development of meaningful learning experiences based on their developmental levels and prior experience.

Student learning is a critical focus in the conceptual framework and the candidate proficiencies addressing subject matter knowledge, pedagogical and professional practice and diversity previously cited in this standard certainly apply. Additionally, the fourth candidate proficiency addresses assessment and states: Candidates have expertise in the assessment and evaluation of pupil needs and achievements and use data in decision-making.

Samples of candidates work addressing student learning are available in the Exhibit Room.
