“We are very excited about our new Parent Advisory Council,” said Polly Crabtree, associate director of the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations. “Parents have clearly demonstrated that they want to be involved in the academic lives of their students, and the development of this council is an outgrowth of that desire.”
The parents come from all over the state and will be welcomed by Rick Ellison, vice president for University Advancement, and Drew Calandrella, vice president for Student Affairs. They will hear presentations from the Office of Advising about its “Chico Unabridged” parent newsletter and an online community for parents of first-year students. Larry Bassow, Greek Live coordinator, will talk about student activities and the sororities and fraternities at CSU, Chico. Parents will also receive the results of a survey of faculty on how parents can best direct their student to improve student/faculty communication.
Saturday events include parent workshops on safety, studying abroad and balancing academics with a social life; the annual family barbecue; and an Associated Students Open House that will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bell Memorial Union.
For a complete schedule of events, please go to the web site. For more information on the Parents Advisory Council, please contact Crabtree at 530-898-6472.
