Three California State University, Chico juniors have each received $5,000 scholarships designated for visually impaired students.

The Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship has been awarded to exercise physiology major Kenneth Crum, communication design major Jennifer O’Donnell and business information systems major Bradley Sanders.

Crum, who is from Greenview, plans to pursue physical therapy or a related field. O’Donnell, who is from Davis, aspires to be a graphic designer for a large corporation. Sanders, originally from Auburn, has plans for a master’s degree in business after graduation.

Schoettler was a businessman from Mountain View, Calif., who was visually impaired himself and wished to expand financial aid for other visually impaired individuals. A $4.8 million bequest from his estate following his death in 2001 made it possible for students from all 23 campuses in the CSU to apply for scholarships.

Students applying for the scholarships must be enrolled full time, must currently have and maintain at least a 2.8 GPA and must have a verified visual impairment.
