The priority application period for students intending to enter California State University, Chico as first-time freshmen in fall 2009 began Oct. 1 and may close Nov. 30.

Challenges brought on by California’s current budget shortfall are forcing the California State University system to reduce increases in student enrollment, and, as a result, an early application will help students improve their chances to attend the CSU campus of their choice.

At least six of the university’s 23 campuses will close freshmen admissions on Nov. 30, 2008, including Fullerton, Long Beach, Pomona, San Diego, San Luis Obispo and Sonoma.

Allan Bee, CSU, Chico director of admissions, strongly encouraged prospective students to apply as early as possible in the application period: “Chico State is an extremely popular campus, and it is likely we, too, will close to freshmen on Nov. 30. Any student, regardless of class level, should apply by Nov. 30 to avoid possible closures.”

Students intending to enter CSU, Chico or another CSU campus as first-time freshmen next fall should visit the Web site www.csumentor.edu to get information, check for impacted majors and complete the online application.
