College of Business Receives Prestigious AACSB Re-accreditation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fewer than 15 percent of the approximately 8,000 business schools in the world earn such a distinction.
College of Business Dean Willie Hopkins received word from the AACSB last month that the re-accreditation was forthcoming. A team of three evaluators on behalf of the AACSB visited campus for two days in November, interviewing faculty, staff and students about the quality of the college’s programs. The peer review team members came from the University of Alabama, Northern Arizona University and Minnesota State University, Mankato.
“This is a very strong endorsement from the most elite accrediting body in the world for business schools,” said Hopkins. “Chico State has one of the best and most innovative business schools in the West, and this re-accreditation is validation of that.”
The College of Business has been accredited by the AACSB since 1972. The college applies for re-accreditation every five years.
Hopkins thanked the many campus community members who spent countless hours preparing materials for the AACSB re-accreditation and meeting with the peer review team. “There is no question that what makes our college great is the tremendous commitment to excellence from our faculty, staff, students and supporters.”
The College of Business provides exemplary instructional programs that are characterized by technological innovation and experiential learning, producing graduates who understand how to integrate business processes and think strategically. CSU, Chico manages a mega-hosting center for SAP, the world’s largest enterprise software company, and develops curriculum that is used by IT professors throughout the world. Programs in entrepreneurship, values-based leadership and sustainability have received national attention.
Founded in 1916 and based in Tampa, Fla., the AACSB is a nonprofit corporation devoted to the promotion and improvement of higher education in business administration and management. Schools seeking AACSB accreditation must meet 24 rigorous standards requiring highly qualified faculty and continuous improvement in the curriculum to keep pace with the needs of business students.
