Phi Kappa Phi members represent the top 10 percent of their class. Members who are graduating with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will receive medallions, which are to be worn at graduation ceremonies. New members will receive pins and certificates presented by deans of colleges and Phi Kappa Phi officers.
In addition, the Dorthea Powers Scholarship award will be announced. Department chairs, faculty advisors, staff and faculty, family members and friends are welcome. Light refreshments and music will follow the ceremony.
Founded in 1897, the society has initiated more than 1 million members, including former President Jimmy Carter, writer John Grisham, NASA astronaut Wendy Lawrence and Netscape founder James Barksdale. Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on nearly 300 select college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines. Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students and the top 7.5 percent of juniors with at least 75 units. The society’s mission is “To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”
