Applicants are considered service-area students if, prior to fall 2009, they last attended one of the following California Community Colleges: Butte, Feather River, Lassen, Shasta, Yuba or College of the Siskiyous. Transfer applicants must meet minimum CSU eligibility requirements.
CSU, Chico will also be open to applications from fully eligible upper division transfer students who can provide evidence that their permanent residence is in one of the following service area counties: Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity and Yuba.
The CSU System is facing a severe budget cut due to the state’s fiscal crisis. Campuses are being mandated to lower enrollment because of the reduced resources that will be available to serve students. The restrictions on spring 2010 applications are part of CSU, Chico’s strategy to cut enrollment on campus.
Allan Bee, CSU, Chico director of admissions, said that the University places a high priority on serving upper-division transfer students within the service area. “In spite of the budget crisis and the need to reduce our enrollment, we recognize that some community college students in the North State are place-bound and don’t have a lot of options in terms of finishing their degrees,” he said. “We need to make room for them so they can keep making progress.”
