Sport Clubs Make the Holiday Season Brighter for Chico’s Less Fortunate

For the third straight holiday season, California State University, Chico’s competitive sport clubs have participated in the Sport Club Council’s holiday food drive to benefit the Jesus Center in Chico. Collectively, members brought in a total of 856 items of food over a 15-day span in the month of December.

“It’s a great cause and good thing to do,” said Stephanie Wahab, president of the Chico State Field Hockey club. “There are people in Chico that are less fortunate than others during the Christmas season,” she added.

Six clubs participated in the food drive this year: Field Hockey, Women’s Rugby, Men’s Water Polo, Men’s Lacrosse, Cycling and Wakeboarding.

Chico State Sport Clubs are under the direction of Mary Wallmark and are a program of Recreational Sports on the campus of CSU, Chico. Clubs are student-run and primarily student-funded, with partial support from Instructionally Related Activity fees.
