California State University, Chico Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching will present the 16th Annual CELT Conference, Oct. 6-8, on the CSU, Chico campus.

Hundreds of CSU, Chico faculty, staff and students will join faculty from other California State University campuses and the California Community Colleges to participate in a full schedule of conference sessions that will explore new ways to enhance high-quality learning and teaching.

Laura I. Rendón, PhD, education leadership and policy studies professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, will present the conference keynote, “A Pedagogy of Wholeness, Social Justice and Liberation,” Thursday, Oct. 7, 1-2 p.m., Bell Memorial Union, room 210.

“We are very happy to be able to host Laura Rendón, our CELT keynote speaker. Professor Rendón is a nationally recognized expert in teaching to diversity and student retention, and I look forward to her engaging presentation and practicum workshop where she will share her work and experience,” said CELT Director Lee Altier, PhD.

Rendón’s practicum workshop, “Authentic Teaching and Learning: Engaging the Heart and Intellect in the Classroom,” is scheduled Friday, Oct. 8, 9-10 a.m.

All conference participants are cordially invited to attend the CELT Conference Awards Luncheon, Wednesday, Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Bell Memorial Union Auditorium. CELT will honor Outstanding Teacher Saundra Wright, PhD, (English) and Outstanding Academic Advisor, Kathryn Silliman, PhD, RD, (Nutrition and Food Science) at the luncheon.

“This year’s CELT theme, Solutions and Strategies, highlights more than 35 sessions in teaching techniques, classroom management, course transformation, using technology to enhance student learning, diversity, internationalization and civic engagement. With a wide variety of conference topics, I know my colleagues will find several sessions that will provide new approaches and techniques that they will be able to apply to their own courses. I encourage my colleagues to register and participate in our full schedule of sessions, the luncheon and networking opportunities. It’s a rewarding opportunity to share our successes, learn from each other and celebrate our outstanding Chico State faculty,” said Altier.
