Employees affected by the Dec. 1, 2009 fire that closed two Chico downtown businesses will thank the community group that raised $13,000 for them at an event Monday, Jan. 25, at California State University, Chico.

The approximately 85 employees of Tres Hombres and Mr. Pickles restaurants are being invited to the lobby of CSU, Chico’s Student Services Center at noon, Jan. 25, to meet University students, staff, business leaders, city officials and other community residents who contributed cash, goods and services to help them out during the holiday season.

A group formed after the fire occurred to help the employees, calling itself “We Are Chico” to invoke the spirit of giving present in the Chico community. The group reached out to CSU, Chico students, faculty and staff as well as a number of Chico businesses to raise money, gift cards and other items.

CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg and Downtown Chico Business Association President Katrina Davis-Woodcox are planning to speak at the event about the caring nature of the community as exemplified by the donations to aid the employees.

We Are Chico members will be at the event to discuss future efforts to help those in need in the community.
