A celebration of the 201st birthday of Charles Darwin will be held at the Gateway Science Museum on Friday, Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Although many of the activities are designed for children, the organizers say that it will be fun and informative for adults as well.

Several teachers from Chico schools have made arrangements to bring their classes. Others who are interested should contact the event coordinator, Chris Ivey, a professor in the Biological Sciences Department, California State University, Chico, at 530-898-5812.

Darwin Day is an international celebration of the life and discoveries of Charles Darwin. This is the second year that Darwin Day has been held in Chico, said Ivey.

“I hope this event will generate curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring the natural world,” said Ivey. “If we can provoke a sense of wonder and appreciation, even a tiny one, toward the majesty that surrounds us, and the seminal role of Darwin in helping us make sense of it, I will feel the celebration has been a success.”

The event is free and open to all. For more information on Darwin Day internationally, go to http://darwinday.org/ .
