Ballroom Dance Night has been a tradition at California State University, Chico for more than 60 years. This year’s dance event will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 7–10 p.m. in Shurmer Gym. The public is welcome, along with students, faculty and staff from CSU, Chico and Butte College.

“If you cannot dance, you are welcome to attend and watch the dancers twirl, turn and float across the gym dance floor,” said Patricia Smiley, ballroom dance coordinator.

A professional DJ provides the dancers with music from many genres. Students have attended classes, know how to dance and come dressed in their best. This is a dress-up affair, but not formal. The evening includes a dance program that lists dances played during the evening.

For the masquerade theme you can bring a mask and receive $1 off at the door. “No costumes, just a fun mask,” said Smiley.

Cost is $6 for students and $7 for community members. Tickets are sold at the door. There are decorations to set the mood, soft lighting and free raffle prizes. Juices and snacks are also provided.
