Approximately 1,500 students are expected to receive bachelor’s degrees on Saturday and approximately 1,300 students Sunday in the University Stadium. The ceremonies start promptly at 9 a.m. and will take about two hours each. They will be held rain or shine. Tickets are not required for admission.

Saturday’s commencement exercises will include graduates from the Colleges of Agriculture, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Business, and Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management. Sunday’s exercises will include graduates from the Colleges of Communication and Education (including Liberal Studies), Humanities and Fine Arts, and Natural Sciences as well as graduates in International and Interdisciplinary Studies.

CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg will speak at both ceremonies. Talia Michelle Israel, a graduating senior from the College of Business, will speak on Saturday. Preston James Countryman, a graduating senior in the College of Natural Sciences, will speak on Sunday.

An honorary doctorate will be awarded to David C. Favor on Saturday, May 22. Favor will receive the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, conferred by the California State University Board of Trustees and CSU, Chico.

Favor is the founder of Victor Treatment Centers, North Valley Schools and Victor Community Support Services, three nonprofit corporations specializing in residential care and treatment for the most seriously emotionally disturbed children in California. These agencies currently serve hundreds of children throughout California.

This year for the first time, the commencement ceremonies will feature two large video screens showing the proceedings. The screens measure 10 feet by 13 feet and will be 19 feet high on either side of the stage.
