17th Annual CSU, Chico CELT Conference on 21st Century Learning

California State University, Chico’s Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is proud to present the 17th Annual CELT Conference, Oct. 5-7, on the CSU, Chico campus.

Educators from throughout California will join hundreds of CSU, Chico faculty, staff and students to participate in a full schedule of CELT Conference sessions that will focus on new ways to enhance teaching and learning in higher education.

Tom Angelo, PhD, pro vice chancellor and professor of higher education at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia, will present the conference keynote, “Deeper Learning by Design: Research-based Guidelines for Sustainable Curriculum and Teaching Improvement,” Thursday, Oct. 6, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Colusa Hall.

CELT Director Lee Altier said, “We are very pleased to have Tom Angelo as the keynote speaker for the CELT Conference this year. Professor Angelo is a very well respected international scholar recognized for his research in learning and assessment strategies, not only in the classroom, but applied beyond the campus. My colleagues and I are looking forward to his keynote and an engaging practicum workshop.”

Professor Angelo’s practicum workshop, "Seven Levers for Deeper Learning: Practical Strategies for Improving Curriculum, Teaching, Assessment and Feedback" is scheduled Friday, Oct. 7, 9:00 a.m.-noon, Colusa Hall.

All conference participants are cordially invited to attend the CELT Conference Awards Luncheon, Wednesday, Oct. 5, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Bell Memorial Union Auditorium. CELT will honor Outstanding Teacher Masami Toku, Outstanding Academic Advisor Jane Rysberg and the Exemplary Online Instruction Award recipients at the luncheon. There is no charge for the luncheon, but advance reservations are required.

“This year’s CELT theme, 21st Century Learning, highlights sessions in teaching, learning, pedagogy, using technology to enhance student learning, diversity and internationalization,” said Altier. “It is a great opportunity to gain an international perspective on classroom engagement and student diversity. I encourage my colleagues to register and participate in our full schedule of sessions, the luncheon and associated professional networking opportunities.”
