The game requires the player to build a city using green principles: low pollution, clean and renewable energy and green building products. Players learn about sustainable technologies and principles through playing the game.
All supporters need to do to vote for ‘Green World’ is to visit the STEM video game competition site at http://cooney-stem.skild.com/ConceptDetails.jsp?pId=5608&filterBy=filterByAll or http://cooney-stem.skild.com/Vote.jsp and click on “Applaud This" on the right side of the page. There isn’t much time left, so Anderson is trying to reach as many people as he can soon. Results should be available near the beginning of March.
‘Green World’ placed in the top 150 entries for the Microsoft International Imagine Cup contest in 2010. The Imagine Cup is an international student technology competition open to high school, college and university students throughout the world.
The National STEM Video Game Challenge is part of President Obama’s initiative to promote a renewed focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. The idea behind the challenge is to motivate interest in STEM learning among America's youth by tapping into students' natural passions for playing and making video games.
“If our project is selected as a winner of the competition, CSU, Chico and our department would receive a lot of recognition,” said Anderson. “It would show that we, as a sustainable campus, encourage and promote education about sustainability.”
If you would like more information on the game or the competition, e-mail Anderson at kenny@pacific.net.
