The 11th Red Tent, sponsored by the Counseling and Wellness Center, the A.S. Women's Center and the Red Tent Annual Fund, is free and open to all women.
In many cultures, a special place was set aside for menstruating women to gather, sometimes referred to as the Red Tent. Once seen as an example of women's oppression, this powerful women-only space is increasingly seen as an opportunity for women of all ages to take a break from routine, share their experiences, nurture their relationships and pass on their wisdom.
Women of all ages are invited to the multi-generational Red Tent for food, drink, and sharing of their lives as women: their questions, worries, laughs, scars, and accumulated wisdom.
This year the theme is “Celebrating Women Through Art and Music.” The celebration includes a keynote address by Laura Joplin, sister of Janis Joplin. There will also be music by Ma Muse and a performance by spoken-word artist Jovi Radtke.
Local female artists will have arts and crafts for sale, and there will be a homemade quilt raffle at the end of the event. Attendees are urged to bring a potluck dish to share. Coffee and tea will be provided.
For additional Information or to purchase a raffle ticket, please call the Wellness Center at 898-4697.
