The center was evaluated by IACS against high standards of counseling practice and was found to offer competent and reliable professional services to its clientele. Approval by IACS is also dependent upon evidence of continuing professional development as well as demonstration of excellence of counseling performance.
CSU, Chico’s Counseling and Wellness Center has been accredited since 1985. It offers individual, couples and group counseling to regularly enrolled students.
“A college counseling center is integral to the educational mission of a university and supports the university and its student in a variety of ways,” said Mimi Bommersbach, director of the center. “We help students work through difficult personal issues that may impact their ability to perform in and out of the classroom. We also serve as mental health consultants who assist faculty, staff and parents with their concerns about the emotional, psychological and physical well-being of students.”
IACS was established in 1972 to encourage and aid counseling agencies to meet high professional standards through peer evaluation and to inform the public about counseling services that are competent and reliable.
