Fall 2012 Museum Without Walls Lecture Series Begins Oct. 3

Presentations begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Chico Area Recreation District (CARD) Center at 545 Vallombrosa Avenue.
A donation of $3 per adult is requested. Students are free with valid student ID card.
Oct. 3:
“A Gold Rush Legacy: Mercury Contamination, Methylation, and Bioaccumulation Associated with Historical Gold Mining in the Sierra Nevada” will be presented by Charles Alpers, Ph.D., research chemist for U.S. Geological Survey.
Oct. 10:
“An Overview of Surface Mining in California - Past to Present” will be presented by Chris Thomas, senior planner for Butte County Department of Development Services.
Oct. 17:
“Fish and Dust: Exposure to Mining Toxins in the Gold Country” will be presented by Carrie Monohan, Ph.D., science director of The Sierra Fund and lecturer in the California State University, Chico Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences.
Oct. 24:
“The Impact of Gold Mining on Human Health in the Sierra Nevada” will be presented by Rebekah Damazo, MSN, faculty member in the CSU, Chico School of Nursing.
