Participants will divide into teams to walk through areas of campus to help identify safety hazards, such as inadequate lighting or overgrown brush, and test the blue-light safety phones in their area.
The group will gather at Selvester’s Cafe-by-the-Creek behind Kendall Hall at 6:30 p.m. for pizza and refreshments, followed by the walk starting at about 7 p.m.
Since campus began the Moonlight Safety Walk, participants’ findings and recommendations have helped improve the safety of the campus.
At the conclusion of each team’s walk, the issues they discovered will be entered into a database, and a committee from the offices of Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and Facilities Management will review the issues. The Public Safety Committee will then communicate the findings of the walk to relevant departments on campus.
Contact University Police Chief Robyn Hearne, chair of the Public Safety Advisory Committee, for more information at 898-5555.
