Chico Performances and University Public Affairs Receive Awards for Excellence

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), District VII, has announced that California State University, Chico received three 2012 Awards of Excellence. Chico Performances received two silver awards for two branding projects, and University Public Affairs and Publications received a silver award for its online newsletter for faculty, staff and administrators, Inside Chico State.

“Once again, CSU, Chico has shown its commitment to the highest of standards and has been recognized by silver awards from CASE,” said Vice President for University Advancement Rick Ellison. “That we consistently garner awards in competition with larger schools with larger budgets and staff is a real testimony to our spirit, talent and dedication. It is especially rewarding that the acknowledgement comes from our advancement professional peers on the CASE VII Board of Directors and selection committees.”

Chico Performances’ goal for the institution-wide branding effort was to reach audiences in the Chico area and in the surrounding region with a clear, consistent message that fostered the thought, “CSU, Chico presents high-quality entertainment.” A student designer, Glenn Rush, was involved in all aspects of the marketing-brand. Rush also designed the visual identity system for the World Music Festival, which is produced annually in the fall by Chico Performances.

Inside Chico State went online with a new Web design and accompanying e-newsletter in May 2011. The new online ICS also received a 2011 Achievement Award from Harris Connect, a provider of online services for nonprofit organizations, for the Best Email Newsletter. Peers selected the achievement awardees.

Last year CSU, Chico was among the top three CASE award recipients in the region, receiving 11 awards. The University of California, Davis and the University of San Diego each received 12 awards. In 2009, Chico won gold for the Gateway Science Museum’s Paver Program and a silver for an illustration of Ella Caroline Sapp Hall by Chris Ficken (Academic Technologies), commissioned for the 125th anniversary of the building. In 2008, Chico won for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts annual fund brochure and for the logo and identity program for the 2007 North State Road Trip.

CASE District VII includes Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Northern Mariana Islands and Utah. CASE provides advancement professionals with support, educational programming and current best practices in the industry.
