Engineering Students Display Prowess in Design Expo 2012

Design Expo 2012 celebrates the culmination of the Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering Capstone Design course at California State University, Chico. The Expo takes place Tuesday, May 8 from 3 to 4:45 p.m. outside of O’Connell and Langdon halls. The campus community and public are invited to see the results of the students’ projects. After the displays, the students will make oral presentations from 5 to 9 p.m. in Langdon 300.

In the yearlong course sequence, student teams tackled 17 unique projects, each involving the design, construction and testing of prototype hardware. Project sponsors include Blueline Technologies, FAFCO, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Deep Space Network, Johns Manville, Lundberg Family Farms, Micro-Vu and One Media Player per Teacher.

A regenerative braking system for the human powered vehicle, a water flow uniformity testing system, a system for the optimization of rice cakes waste stream, a hybrid powered recumbent bicycle and a NASA electric vehicle transmission project are just a few of the design challenges the students took on.
