Significant new developments as well as controversies have taken place in psychopharmacology during the past two years. The workshop addresses potential problems with suicidality in children and teenagers treated with antidepressants, childhood onset bipolar disorder, empirically derived treatment guidelines for ADHD and major depression, and new studies on over-the-counter products.
Attendees develop better skills related to diagnosing psychiatric disorders, become familiar with new approaches to the medication treatments of certain disorders, appreciate the limitations of pharmacologic treatments and the need for integrated approaches and understand the use of over-the-counter products and their limitations.
The program is accredited for six hours/credits through the Board of Registered Nursing, the Board of Behavioral Sciences Examiners, the California Psychological Association Accrediting Agency and the American Medical Association.
John Preston, Psy.D., ABPP, is professor emeritus with Alliant International University, Sacramento campus. He has also taught on the faculty of UC Davis School of Medicine. Preston is the author of 21 books, five of which are psychopharmacology texts. He is the recipient of the California Psychological Association’s Distinguished Contributions to Psychology Award. Preston has lectured in the United States, Canada, Africa, Europe and Russia.
The Psychopharmacology Update will be held Friday, May 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Colusa Hall Conference and Event Center on the CSU, Chico campus. Additional information and online registration can be found at http://rce.csuchico.edu/inservice or by calling Regional and Continuing Education at 530-898-6105.
