Memorial Day is visitors’ last chance to explore Toys: The Inside Story, which includes 12 hands-on stations illustrating the simple mechanisms commonly found in toys, and lets visitors create their own toy-like combinations of gears, pulleys, linkages, cams and circuits. Visitors will discover what makes Jack jump out of his box and learn why a steady hand wins at the classic game Operation®.
It’s also the final day to investigate the science of sound, music and hearing with Noise! There are 11 hands-on activities to try out, including a scream chamber for visitors to measure the decibel level of their loudest scream,
In the James W. Cornyn Valley Gallery, visitors can explore Keeping Company with Flowers: A Glimpse into the World of Pollinators. More than 50 photographs of pollinators in wild and garden settings vividly portray the relationship between flowers and their many kinds of pollinators. Through close-up photographs and supplemental activities, the exhibit introduces a diversity of pollinators, the various processes of pollination, the needs of these pollinators and the obstacles their populations are facing. This exhibit will continue throughout the summer.
The museum will be open its regular hours the weekend before Memorial Day, which are noon to 5 p.m.
Gateway Science Museum is located at 625 Esplanade. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for museum members. For more information, please visit www.gatewayscience.org.
