California State University, Chico expects approximately 1,500 prospective students and their families at the 19th annual Chico Preview Day Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fall open house gives future students and family members an opportunity to visit the campus and talk directly with faculty, staff and current students.

Vice President for Student Affairs Drew Calandrella and A.S. President Taylor Herren will address and welcome attendees at 9:30 a.m. in Laxson Auditorium.

Walking tours of campus and bus tours of Chico will take place every 30 minutes starting at 8:30 a.m. The walking tours start in the Bell Memorial Union (BMU) courtyard, and bus tours begin at the corner of 2nd and Chestnut streets.

Other tours include university housing tours starting at 10 a.m. in the BMU courtyard and running every 10 minutes and a tour of the College of Agriculture farm at 2 p.m.

The event also includes an information fair in the BMU Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All academic departments and student support services such as the Educational Opportunity Program, Student Health Service, Student Activities, Advising and Career Planning will be available to answer questions about CSU, Chico. Campus financial aid experts will be at the event to provide information about financing education and finding available scholarships.

Prospective students will also be able to learn about the CSU’s new Early Start initiative that helps students ready themselves for college-level math and English prior to enrollment.

“Visiting campus is a great way for students and their families to see if Chico State is the right choice for them,” said Wendy Needels, assistant director, Office of Admissions. “Whether students are exploring different majors, want to see our residence halls or take a walking tour of campus, they are sure to find exactly what they are looking for. College admissions is becoming more competitive, so an open house like this is an important tool for students and their families to use in the college decision-making process.”
