California State University, Chico’s student newspaper, The Orion, won second place in the website category at the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) fall convention.

The meeting, hosted by the ACP and the College Media Association, took place Oct. 23-27 in New Orleans.

A newly updated The Orion website was launched in September to keep CSU, Chico students up to date on the latest news and events. A previous version of the website placed fourth at the ACP’s midwinter convention in San Francisco last March.

The Orion Managing Editor Quinn Western, who oversaw the redesign of the website, said, “I’m proud of The Orion staff for working diligently this semester to put out a stellar weekly print edition in addition to an award-winning daily online publication. It’s a great feeling to be a part of a huge transition in The Orion and for journalism as a whole.”

The student newspaper at SAIT Polytechnic, in Calgary, Alberta, won first place in the competition, which featured universities with enrollments between 10,000 and 20,000 in the United States, Canada and some other countries.

The Orion, a laboratory newspaper of CSU, Chico’s nationally accredited journalism department, has won dozens of national, regional and state awards. The Orion was inducted into the ACP Hall of Fame in 2005 for its record of achievement.
