The Center for Economic Development at California State University, Chico is proud to announce that this year’s Economic Forecast Conference, “Healthy Time to Grow,” will be on Jan. 16, 2014, at the Gold Country Event Center. The conference will provide valuable economic insight regarding the direction of our national, state and regional economies to our community, business and health care leaders. It will focus on health care as an opportunity for economic growth, exploring in depth the many ways we in the North State can leverage our assets in this quickly evolving, far-reaching industry.

The conference will include a daylong trade show featuring a variety of area businesses, organizations, medical associations and health care providers. It will include a hot breakfast, a main session with several expert speakers, lunch, breakout sessions and a networking reception to finish the day.

We are excited to have as main session speakers John Chiang, state controller; Dr. Robert Eyler of Sonoma State University; Micah Weinberg, CEO of Healthy Systems Project; and Robert J. Wentz, president and CEO of Oroville Hospital. These speakers will provide economic analysis as well as an assessment of economic opportunities within the health care industry.

Joining us as lunchtime speakers are Michael Glaze, director of Oroville Economic Alliance and CEO of South Feather Water and Power Agency, and Ana Varona, wellness coordinator at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Glaze will present “Oroville: California’s Business Oasis,” and Varona will present “Worksite Wellness Case Study of Health Risk and Health Care Cost Reductions at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.”

Breakout session topics include Rural Health care, Healthy Aging, Health Care and Business, Marketing, Health care Education and Jobs, and a Hospital Leadership Panel. Session panelists will provide expertise on these subjects in a more intimate, town-hall setting.

Conference attendees come from both the public and private sectors. This diverse crowd includes businesses, utility companies, nonprofits, governments, universities and elected officials from all over the North State, making it an excellent networking opportunity.  Last year’s conference registered over 550 attendees.

The North State Economic Forecast Conference will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan 16, 2014, at the Gold Country Event Center, 4020 Olive Highway, Oroville. Early-bird registration prices are available until Jan. 1. To register, visit www.cedcal.com or call 530-898-4598.

The Center for Economic Development at CSU, Chico endeavors to educate and build the knowledge and capacity of California’s professionals in order to contribute to the enhancement of the well-being of the region’s citizens by facilitating sustained, long-term and coordinated economic development strategies.
