California State University, Chico’s Upward Bound program will host a College and Career Fair at Bidwell Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 19, for the 230 students who are living and attending classes on campus this summer.

Slated for 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the fair will be an opportunity for students to connect with local businesses and receive input as they consider their professional and education options. Hewlett-Packard, Intel, the Hmong Cultural Center and Butte College are among the employers slated to be in attendance. CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg will also attend the fair.

The Upward Bound Projects serves low-income and first-generation high school students who are motivated to attend a four-year university. Since 1966, the program has helped students determine which college is best for them and to prepare them for a college education. Nearly all Upward Bound students attend college after graduating from high school, and about half attend CSU, Chico. The program is funded by federal grants and reaches 18 public high schools in six counties locally.
