STOP Presents Human Trafficking Awareness Week March 25-29 at CSU, Chico

The week will begin with a kick-off concert featuring three local bands and a reading of modern-day slavery narratives from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 25 in Trinity Commons. Later that day, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Bell Memorial Union (BMU) Auditorium, award-winning musician and filmmaker Justin Dillon will present his film “Call + Response,” a “rockumentary” on music and songs fighting slavery today. Dillon and the film have been featured on CNN, the Today Show, MSNBC and the Dr. Phil Show, and in the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Chicago Sun and Huffington Post. He has spoken at the White House, Department of State, United Nations events, the Clinton Global Initiative, and Princeton, Harvard and Columbia Universities.
The rest of the week will include seminars on human trafficking from multiple perspectives, including that of law enforcement, survivors and international experts. The week will end with a presentation on globalization and conscious consumerism from keynote speaker Kelsey Timmerman, journalist and author of “Where Am I Wearing? A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories, and People That Make Our Clothes” at 7 p.m. in the BMU Auditorium.
Co-sponsors for this event include the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, the College of Business, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Department of Sociology, Department of History, Department of Political Science, CSU, Chico’s Associated Students, the California Faculty Association and Bidwell-Rancho Soroptomists.
