More than 3,500 prospective students and their family members are expected to visit California State University, Chico during Choose Chico! on Saturday, April 5.

Hosted by CSU, Chico’s Office of Admissions, the open-house event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. gives students who have been admitted for the fall 2014 semester and their families a chance to explore the campus and town and interact with faculty, staff and current students.

The day starts with registration at the Bell Memorial Union auditorium and a welcome from CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg at 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. in Laxson Auditorium. Other activities include tours of the campus and the city, a Student Involvement Fair, Financial Aid and University Housing presentations, and meetings with representatives from various colleges and departments. The event is not a substitute for orientation but is a highly recommended preview day for students still making their final college choice, said Wendy Needels, assistant director for the Office of Admissions.

“Selecting a college is a major decision,” she said. “Here at Chico State, we want you to be sure of your choice. This premier open house offers admitted students and their families an opportunity to experience firsthand our true ‘college town’ environment. It’s a chance to see what outstanding academic opportunities are available and what a beautiful campus we have. Making a decision on what college to attend can be difficult, but on this day, we all work to help make that decision a little easier.”

A special hashtag has been created, #choosechico, for social media users to chronicle their experiences that day.

Online registration closes Tuesday, April 1. More information about the event can be found at http://www.csuchico.edu/admissions/choose_chico.shtml.
