FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alcohol and Other Drugs Educational Conference Coordinator
The Alcohol and Other Drugs Educational Conference, a program of the California State University Chancellor’s Office, brings together students, staff and faculty working to prevent alcohol and drug abuse on college campuses to share activities, ideas and promising practices. With 258 registered to attend, this year’s event promises to be the largest in its 11-year history.
The conference begins at noon on Thursday and ends at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Over the two days, colleges and universities from around the state will share successful programs, lessons learned and plans for the future. A variety of topics will be covered, including alcohol and tobacco abuse prevention, bystander intervention and mental health issues.
The conference will feature keynote presentations by two speakers. Jason Kilmer, who holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, is the assistant director of Health and Wellness for Alcohol and Other Drug Education at the University of Washington. Kilmer will address prevention strategies for marijuana’s legal environment.
Victor DeNoble, who holds a doctorate in experimental psychology, is vice president of Hissho Inc., a scientific and medical communication company, and is the subject of the documentary film “Addiction Incorporated.” DeNoble will address the connection between drug addiction and the brain at 10:45 a.m. Friday.
The conference includes an awards presentation recognizing campus efforts and a vendor exposition.
The CSU is committed to fighting alcohol and other drug abuse on and off the college campus through education, collaboration and cooperation. The conference is hosted on a different CSU campus each year.
