California State University, Chico’s graduate nursing program has been named one of the best in the nation by MastersDegreeOnline.org.

Each year, the site lists the best online degree programs in the country based on specializations offered, research conducted and graduate success. Rigor of program and program reputation are also considered. To create the list, the organization interviews deans, surveys students and conducts private research.

CSU, Chico has offered the master’s degree in nursing since 1970. Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the program has been offered primarily online since 2004. The course is designed to meet the needs of nurses who are working in rural areas, teaching them the necessary skills to educate residents of those areas about good health. Students may choose from concentrations in nursing education or, new this fall, nursing leadership. The program also recently moved from a biennial to an annual admissions cycle.

The University joins the University of San Francisco; University of Massachusetts, Boston; and California State University, Los Angeles in earning the distinction.

“CSU, Chico offers a part-time, affordable, online (excluding clinical practicum courses that can typically be completed close to a student's home) master's program,” said Carol Huston, director, CSU, Chico School of Nursing. “Graduates of this nationally accredited program serve in nursing faculty and leadership positions throughout the North State and beyond.”

MastersDegreeOnline.org is an online directory containing more than 90,000 program listings, including institution size, geographic area, tuition cost and school type.
