CSU, Chico Will Hold 124th Commencement
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Approximately 1,650 students are expected to receive bachelor’s degrees on Saturday and approximately 1,250 students on Sunday. The ceremonies will start promptly at 9:45 a.m. in the University Stadium, will take about two hours each and will be held rain or shine. In addition, approximately 170 graduating students in the College of Agriculture will have their Commencement ceremony Saturday at 7:30 a.m. in Laxson Auditorium.
For safety reasons, the size of the stadium audience will be limited to the approximately 8,200 seats available. Starting April 1, each graduate was provided up to five tickets for entrance to the stadium and two additional tickets on a first-come basis for guest seating to watch the ceremony live in Laxson Auditorium or Harlen Adams Theatre. Additional stadium tickets have been provided to graduates since April to allow for the maximum number of seats filled.
To accommodate everyone who wishes the watch Commencement live, an outdoor viewing area with a large video screen has been set up on Glenn Lawn near the Rose Garden. This venue will have open seating, and no tickets are required. The Commencement exercises will also be streamed live on the Internet for remote viewing on computers and mobile devices at the following link: http://www.csuchico.edu/commencement/live/.
Graduates and the campus community are invited to participate in the conversation on social media using #Chico2014. See what they are sharing at http://bit.ly/chico2014.
The University is also celebrating graduate students. Approximately 250 students who have completed graduate programs are expected to participate in the Master's Commencement Friday, May 16, at 6 p.m. in Laxson Auditorium. Tickets are also required to attend this event.
Special graduation celebrations will be held throughout this week. For a listing of all those events, go to http://www.csuchico.edu/commencement/special-celebrations.shtml. For all other Commencement information, go to http://www.csuchico.edu/commencement/index.shtml.
Saturday’s commencement exercises will include graduates from the Colleges of Behavioral and Social Sciences; Business; and Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management. Sunday’s commencement exercises will include graduates from the Colleges of Communication and Education (including Liberal Studies); Humanities and Fine Arts; and Natural Sciences.
Saturday’s student speaker at the stadium will be Brandon Christopher Durkin, a graduating senior in business. Graduating senior Taylor Herren will speak at the College of Agriculture ceremony. On Sunday, Rebekah Joy Branaman, a graduating senior in Communication Sciences and Disorders, will be the student speaker.
