Campus and Community Events Will Be Highlights of The Chico Experience Week

Special reunions, events and community activities are planned during the seventh annual The Chico Experience Week, slated for Oct. 7-16. Sponsored by the Chico State Alumni Association, The Chico Experience Week links the campus with local organizations and businesses while celebrating all things Chico for a wide range of audiences.

Activities beginning on Friday, Oct. 7, include the Young Alumni Mixer at B Street Public House in downtown Chico and a performance of CSU, Chico’s Low Brass Choir.

This year’s reunions include the 50th anniversary of Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) on Oct. 14-16 and Golden Grad festivities on Oct. 14-15 for graduates from 1966 and earlier. The CSU, Chico kinesiology department is also having a reunion on Oct. 14.

Students, parents and friends are looking forward to the Chico State Family Weekend Barbecue on the lawn in front of Kendall Hall on Saturday, Oct. 8. Other Family Weekend activities including tours and an open house at the Wildcat Leadership Center in the Bell Memorial Union .

Saturday is also the start of the popular Sierra Oro Farm Trail, featuring local farms, wineries and shops, and the You Know You’re From Chico Festival in the downtown Chico City Plaza.

The Chico Experience Week coincides with Greek Week, when CSU, Chico students in fraternities and sororities participate in service activities. Events include a blood drive on Oct. 10-11, a “Can”struction food drive on Oct. 12 and the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk on Oct. 15.

Queer Week, held Oct. 10-15 to educate the campus and community on queer issues and show support for the LGBTQ+ community, includes events including an information fair on Oct. 12, a drag show on Oct. 13 to benefit victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting and a pride march on Oct. 14.

The Chico Experience Week preferred partners include the Downtown Chico Business Association, Chico Chamber of Commerce, Chico Artoberfest and Sierra Oro Farm Trail. Sponsors are Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Liberty Mutual Insurance, Mercer, Courtyard by Marriott Chico, Residence Inn by Marriott Chico and Wells Fargo.
