California State University, Chico will welcome more than 1,500 prospective students and their families at the 22nd annual Chico Preview Day on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also on Oct. 22, CSU, Chico will hold a grand opening and open house for the new Arts and Humanities Building, which opened for classes this fall.

Chico Preview Day gives future students and their family members an opportunity to visit the campus and engage directly with faculty, staff and current students. Information and experiences will be shared on social media using #chicopreviewday.

The day kicks off with a welcome by University President Gayle Hutchinson and student Jerad Prevost, Wildcat ambassador, at 9:30 a.m. in Laxson Auditorium.

Walking tours of campus for students and families will take place every 30 minutes beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tours start in the Bell Memorial Union (BMU) courtyard at the corner of 2nd and Chestnut streets. Tours in Spanish will be available at noon and 1 p.m., starting from the same location.

Other tours will include University housing, the Wildcat Recreation Center and the Wildcat Leadership Center, a hub for student leadership activities.

An information fair in the BMU Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will offer important information and resources for students and families. All academic departments and student support service offices such as Advising, Student Health Services, Educational Opportunity Program, Student Employment and Career Planning will be available to answer questions about the University. Campus financial aid experts will be at the event to provide information about education financing options and finding scholarships.

“Visiting campus is such an important part of the college decision-making process, and during this event students and visitors have the opportunity to experience first-hand what makes Chico State a great option,” said Wendy Needels, assistant director, Office of Admissions. “During Chico Preview Day, we have a huge academic and student support service information fair along with tours of almost every facility. From attending a financial aid workshop to taking a tour of the Wildcat Recreation Center, this day offers something for everyone.”

“We are also especially excited this year to be able to host the grand opening of our newest building – the Arts and Humanities building,” said Needels.  “This is a state-of-the-art facility for our students.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new arts building will begin at noon. Desserts for attendees and guided tours of the building will follow.

Included in the celebration will be glass-blowing and ceramics demonstrations, performances by student and faculty musicians and museum and gallery tours.
