California State University, Chico has once again been recognized for its affordability and quality education, ranking No. 3 nationwide as one of “50 Best Engineering Schools 2016” by Best Value Colleges. CSU, Chico leads five other CSUs that also made the list, which compared all four-year public and nonprofit U.S. colleges that offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering and are accredited with the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology.

Center for Healthy Communities to Help Adults Enroll in Money-Saving Programs

The Center for Healthy Communities (CHC) at California State University, Chico has been chosen to establish the North State Benefits Enrollment Center (NSBEC) to help older adults and the disabled in Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Tehama, and Yuba Counties. The center will conduct education and outreach regarding programs that could save individuals money on health care, prescriptions, food and more, and will help them enroll, if eligible.

SAGE is part of California State University, Chico’s Center for Entrepreneurship, housed in the College of Business. CSU, Chico business professor Curt DeBerg is SAGE’s founder and executive director.

CSU, Chico Student Named for Prestigious David L. Boren Scholarship

California State University, Chico student William Walker has won a scholarship that will enable him to study for a year in Taiwan, as he pursues a global education and future career with the federal government. The political science major was named earlier this month as a recipient of the David L. Boren Scholarship, which aims to add important international and language components to students’ educations by facilitating their overseas studies in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Walker will spend the 2016-17 academic year studying international relations with a minor in economics at National Taiwan University.

The Gateway Science Museum (GSM) at California State University, Chico is inviting those interested in science, education, natural history and museums to volunteer their time in service. Volunteer orientations, which are required for new participants, will be offered Thursday, Jan. 28, from 12:15 to 1 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 31, from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Elementary Educators Being Recruited to Participate

California State University, Chico is now recruiting teams of elementary teachers and their principals to participate in Project Experience Science, Technology, Engineering, Electronics and Math (ESTEEM), a two-year professional science learning grant recently secured by the University.

New Museum Exhibit Explores the Human Body

The Gateway Science Museum at California State University, Chico is pleased to announce the opening of its spring 2016 exhibit, “Grossology,” which is based on the best-selling children’s book by Sylvia Branzei by the same name. The exhibit opens Saturday, Jan. 16 and runs through May 8.
