Breanna Holbert, an agricultural education major in California State University, Chico’s College of Agriculture, has been elected to lead National Future Farmers of America (FFA). She will be the first female African American to serve in this position in the national organization’s 90-year history.

California State University, Chico construction management student Malyssa Gunderson has been selected to receive the 2017 CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement. The Board of Trustees selects students from throughout the state to receive the annual award, which is given to one student from each of the CSU’s 23 campuses. She is this year’s Ralph M. Parsons Foundation Scholar.

In partnership with The Yellow Door, Regional & Continuing Education at California State University, Chico will present the Inaugural Northern California Autism Symposium on Sept. 29 and 30 on the University campus. The program will include concurrent sessions and a keynote address for professionals and parents/guardians of individuals and children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Session topics include family relationship building, behavior modification, whole health, incorporating social skills in movement activities, and teaching motor skills at home, among others.
Annual Peach-Picking Opens to Public Aug. 10 at University Farm

The annual “U-Pick Peaches” event at the California State University, Chico’s University Farm opens to the public on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to noon. The farm will remain open for the public to pick peaches from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then until supplies last.
