University Named to List of Colleges with Best Return on Investment
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The college ranking website set out to create a list of schools yielding in-state undergraduate students the best return on their tuition dollars. Using information collected by PayScale.com, a source for salary information, BestColleges.com weighed the cost of a college’s attendance against the median earning power of its graduates over 30 years. With a 30-year net return of $798,700, CSU, Chico placed 50th on the list, beating out nearly 400 other universities in the United States. It joins UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UCLA, California Polytechnic State University, Texas A & M and the University of Massachusetts in earning the distinction.
BestColleges.com based its list on Payscale.com’s 2013 College Education ROI Rankings, which used school employee surveys to gather data on average total costs, financial aid packages and the salary levels and employability of its graduates. BestColleges.com’s 30-year net ROI calculations represent the amount of money earned by an alum over the course of 30 years minus the total cost of tuition at the time he or she graduated. The site includes information on the impact of financial aid on graduates’ ROI. The rankings apply to bachelor’s-level programs only.
CSU, Chico has a long record of excellence in academics and high earnings by graduates. In 2013, the University received the best score possible on the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard, which rates schools on cost, graduation rate, student loan default rate, level of student borrowing and graduate employment. The same year, the University was ranked 110th on Payscale.com’s college salary report for starting and midyear alumni salaries; alums from more than 1,000 colleges and universities were surveyed.
Among other distinctions, CSU, Chico has been named to Forbes’ list of top colleges and Washington Monthly’s list of colleges with the “best bang for the buck.” The University has been ranked a top-10 regional public university in the West since 1998 by U.S. News and World Report.
