College of Business Receives Strong Accreditation Approval

California State University, Chico’s College of Business has had its accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International extended for a full five-year period.

The accreditation period was approved in December 2013 by the AACSB’s Continuous Improvement Review Committee and the Board of Directors following a campus visit by a peer review team from the accrediting body.

“This high achievement speaks to the outstanding quality of our faculty, staff and students,” said College of Business Dean Judith Hennessey. “The College of Business is known for innovative and results-based programs as well as successfully preparing students for a global business environment. This continuing, five-year accreditation validates the high standards we set for ourselves.”

Interim Associate Dean Julie Indvik, who was interim dean during the peer-review team visit, said, “The successful accreditation shows how seriously we take maintaining the quality of our programs and continuously improving. It says our faculty members are highly qualified to offer a business education that contributes to the successful careers of our graduates.”

Indvik said the accreditation involved quite a lot of hard work on the part of many faculty, staff and students, such as management professor Marc Siegall, the former department chair and interim dean who wrote the report that was reviewed by AACSB. “This was a team effort, and we owe a big thanks to all those in the college, and throughout the University, who played a role in this very positive result.”

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's or doctoral degrees in business and accounting. AACSB accreditation is considered a standard for quality in business education, and it is earned by less than five percent of the world's business programs.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

The College of Business has been fully accredited by AACSB since 1972.
