Imagineer Day to Engage, Educate Children in Science Concepts
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The day of hands-on lab experiments will expose children to the various fields of engineering, including chemical, environmental, civil and electrical. Students in grades K-6 will participate.
Other activities planned include building an LED light, seeing and touching human organs and DNA, and building a city water system.
The annual event is organized by SWE’s five student officers and other volunteers. Children receive complimentary snacks, lunch and an Imagineer Day T-shirt. The event is funded by STEM-based grants, community sponsors and the SWE.
“Imagineer Day is a great way for us engineering students to positively influence students of a young age and introduce them to some of the many engineering and STEM-based career paths,” said Michelle Rodriguez, section president for CSU, Chico’s SWE. “We hope to show younger students that school, and especially STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, can be fun, exciting and more ‘hands-on’ than just reading from a textbook.”
The Society of Women Engineers is a national nonprofit that aims to help women achieve their full potential in all fields of engineering and expand the image of the engineering profession.
The CSU, Chico SWE strives to expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, demonstrate the value of diversity and to encourage more women in the field.
