Chico State Welcomes Students from Tecnologico de Monterrey
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gabriel Servin, International Programs Director
Tecnologico de Monterrey
The program is comprised of two applied computer graphics workshops that provide an introduction to video game design, technical game production techniques and commercial marketing experience.
The students will work in collaborative teams in the laboratory to design, create and test a working computer game. Taught by Jeff Underwood, a professor in CSU, Chico’s Applied Computer Graphics program, the course will support the students’ English language acquisition and provide an introduction to the game development industry.
The program is helping the two universities revive a relationship that goes back 20 years. In 1994, CSU, Chico students began taking courses at Tecnologico de Monterrey’s Guadelajara campus, mainly in Spanish, Mexican history and Mexican culture. Now the program is evolving to provide Mexican students the opportunity to study in Chico. For several, it is the first time they have traveled outside their home country.
“We see this as a first step toward renewing a dynamic relationship,” said Gabriel Servin, international programs director for the Guadalajara campus. “Our goal for 2015 is to send 75 percent of our cohort abroad. We’re interested in growing this partnership and eventually offering semester-long study abroad options.”
In addition to group computer graphics laboratory and English language experience, the students will be introduced to local American culture and tour area businesses. They will also enjoy a calendar of Chico happenings including the Thursday Night Market, a Friday Night Concert at the City Plaza, a tour of Bidwell Park, and water activities at the Forebay Aquatic Center.
Founded in 1943, Tecnologico de Monterrey (TEC) is one of the largest private university systems in Latin America. Based in Monterey, Mexico, the university supports more than 90,000 students on 33 campuses throughout Mexico.
CSU, Chico’s Center for Regional and Continuing Education is administering the program. For more information, please call the continuing education office at 530-898-6105 or visit http://rce.csuchico.edu.
