Students Seek 2015 Community Service Project Proposals

Students from California State University, Chico’s College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management and a board of community advisors are seeking proposals for the students’ 2015 Community Service Project. The proposal deadline is Monday, Aug. 18.

Blitz Build workerStudents from across disciplines spend months organizing and preparing for a week of service over their winter or spring breaks. They are guided by a community advisory board and faculty from the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management (ECC).

In April this year, approximately 70 students forfeited their spring breaks to build two duplexes in just eight days for the Chico Salvation Army.

Other past projects include barn raising at the local Patrick Ranch Museum (2013); rebuilding homes in tornado-struck Joplin, Missouri (2012); building homes for Catalyst Domestic Violence Services in Chico (2010-2011); responding to the needs of fire survivors in Concow, California (2009); and repairing houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina (2006-2008).

Guidelines for 2015 project proposals are

  • Benefiting organizations must be not for profit and classified as charitable, educational or cultural.
  • Funding needed for tools, equipment, materials and supportive services can be included in project requests and will be considered during the selection process.
  • Applicants must complete the CSU, Chico ECC Application for Community Service Projects form, found online at http://tinyurl.com/n6ud8m4. Be clear and specific in the application.
  • Email the completed form to dshirah@csuchico.edu.
  • Applications will be accepted through Aug. 18, 2014. A project will be selected shortly thereafter.
