‘Daily Show’ Writer Jason Ross to Speak on Constitution Day
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chico born and raised, Ross is a graduate of Chico High School and UC Santa Barbara. From 1994 to 1997, he worked as a writer and arts editor for the Chico News and Review. During the summers while attending college, Ross took part in the original Butcher Shop Theater in Chico.
"I couldn't be happier to deliver this year's Constitution Day address,” Ross said in recent correspondence. “I spend a good portion of every day shouting things at perfect strangers. If CSU, Chico is willing to let me do so indoors, that's a win-win." On the subject of his presentation, Ross added: "In addition to touching on my lifelong connection to Chico, I will offer some ideas about the role of humor in our lives and the role of satire in a democracy. Let's call it 'discursive.' That means 'rambling and unfocused,' right?"
“By all accounts, Ross’ presentation promises to provide an entertaining and informative view of why so many young Americans report that comedy shows like ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report’ are their most trusted source for news and political commentary,” said Alan Gibson, Political Science.
Seating may be limited due to interest in Ross’ talk, so Gibson suggests that people arrive early to insure a seat.
The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the Department of Political Science, the Associated Students Government, the Political Science Honor Society Pi Sigma Alpha and the Community Legal Information Center (CLIC) sponsor this Constitution Day event.
