Putty Tutorial
Step 1 - Download putty

Select your favorite internet browser

Go to www.google.com

At the Google main page, enter "putty" in the text field and press
enter or click the Google Search button.

Select the first link: PuTTY: afree Win32 telnet/ssh client

Select the forth link in the list: Download PuTTY!

Select the first link for Windows 95,98,ME,NT and 2000 on Intel x86: putty.exe

A popup window will appear, select Save this program to disk and click
the OK button.

You will be given a choice of where to save the file, most likely you will
want to save the program to your Desktop.

The download shouldn't take long, putty.exe is a small file.
Step 2 - Launch putty

Once the putty icon
is on your Desktop double click it
to launch putty.

The PuTTY Configuration window will open.

Here you may customize your putty session in the Catagory area by selecting
any of the options under Session, Terminal, Window, or Connection.

To log onto a CSUC server enter the Host Name in the top text field, for
example: cougar.ecst.csuchico.edu, or (for tiglon only)
ect-unix.csuchico.edu.

Select either Telnet or SSH(Secure Shell) from the radio buttons under
Protocol.

Press enter or click the Open button.
Step 3 - Log onto UNIX

A putty session window will open and prompt you for your login then for
your password. Once your login and password are confirmed you are logged
on.
Note:
You can resize the putty window like any other
window by dragging the sides or corner to the desired
location.
