Activities & Accomplishment


Dawn Clifford, Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, was recognized as a 2014 - 2015 Learning Catalyst by the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. Dr. Clifford was nominated by students for her extraordinary mentoring ability, and in her presentation shared tips for effective mentoring.

Gayle Kipnis, Karen Lightfoot, Irene Morgan, and Miriam Walter from the School of Nursing, Kris Blee and Tony Cline from the Department of Biological Sciences, and Tanya Heaston from the Department of Science Education presented on best practices at the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching 2014 conference.

Dean David Hassenzahl and Acting Associate Dean Randy Miller participated in the CSU Fall Science Deans' Conference at CSU Channel Islands.

Kevin McGown, presented in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics Colloquium series on Euclidean Ideal Classes.

Stephanie Bianco, Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences / Center for Nutrition and Activity Promotion received a grant of $99,994.00 from the US Department of Agriculture to make fresh produce, cooking demonstrations, and food tastings available to students, staff, and community members at farm stands in Colusa County, CA.

Maria Giovanni, Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, received a grant of $77,586.00 through the California Department of Food and Agriculture's Specialty Crop Block Grant Program for "Farm to Seniors: Improving the Vitality of Specialty Crop Farmers and Senior Adults."

Dr. Dawn Clifford and Dr. Michelle Morris were the lead contributors to developing the Guidelines for Nutritionists and Dietitians for the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance. Take a closer look at the guildines here! 

Michele Buran – Physical Activity Specialist, from the Center for Healthy Communities received White House Recognition in March 2014: Let’s Move! Child Care applauds Chico State for increasing opportunities in preschool physical activity, associated with the center’s modest $30,000 California Obesity Prevention Program (COPP) grant.
