CSU, Chico Studnts Place 4th!

The team from CSU, Chico won 4th place (10 teams competed) at the College Nutrition Bowl at Northridge. The team members in the photo are  Hayley Fennessy, Sam Figlia, Amy Harris, and Jennifer DeBerdt and Amy Harris. They won a plaque, $150 towards the dept and $100 towards NFSA. Also featured in the photo is ADA (American Dietetic Association) President Mr. Martin Yadrick. 

Public Relations Students Win Environmental Prize

November 20, 2008 - Five public relations seniors were awarded the fall 2008 Jack Rawlins Environmental Prize for their Energy Conservation Awareness Campaign. Seniors Ashley Gunther, Elise Watkins, Emilie Johnson, Jessica Mindt and Katelyn Davis created an awareness campaign to educate California State University, Chico students about the importance of energy conservation. In addition to the $6,000 prize, which the students will share, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has offered to pay for the expenses of the campaign.

CSU, Chico Mathematics Students Place First in Calculus Competition

April 16, 2008 - Six students from the California State University, Chico Department of Mathematics competed in the 40th Annual Statewide Mathletics Competition, held at California State University, Monterey Bay April 12.

CSU, Chico team members Corey Zaro, Lindsay Cole, Chelsea Lindsay, Jonathan Roy, Chris Hasek and Samantha Wilson won first place in the college calculus team competition.

Mathematics major Corey Zaro took second place in the individual calculus competition, and mathematics major Lindsay Cole received an honorable mention in the same competition.

Ralph Ger Award for Outstanding Student of the Year in Clinical Anatomy at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City

NEW YORK CITY—Faculty at Albert Einstein College of Medicine awarded Troy A. Miles with the Ralph Ger Award for Outstanding Student of the Year in Clinical Anatomy during a June 4, 2007, reception.

The prestigious award is given to just two medical students each year in recognition of exceptional work in the field of clinical anatomy.

University faculty select recipients based on exam scores, class ranking, and nominations from classmates.

Miles was presented the award by Dr. Ger, a renowned clinician and anatomist. Ger is the author of several medical textbooks, as well as a founding member of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists.

Miles, a 2002 Red Bluff Union High School graduate and 2006 California State University, Chico graduate.

" Troy was an excellent student at CSU, Chico," said Patricia Edelmann, chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. "His outstanding quality as a student and person was recognized with the invitation to deliver the 'Reflections' speech at Commencement."

Miles is a 2002 Red Bluff Union High School graduate. He recently completed his first year of medical school, with plans to graduate in 2010.

He is the son of Ronald and Norma Miles from Red Bluff, and the husband of Stephanie Teague-Miles.

Ben Taft Awarded ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Fellowship

Benjamin Robert Taft, a 2004 Chemistry graduate with honors from Chico State, was awarded an ACS Division of Organic Chemistry fellowship. Fifteen outstanding third- and fourth-year graduate students are selected on the basis of their research accomplishments and a short original essay. The fellowship stipend for 2007-08 is $24,000, and fellows will travel to the 2009 National Organic Symposium to present posters on their work.

Ben, a Floyd English scholarship recipient while attending Chico State, is a fourth-year student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, working in the laboratory of Bruce H. Lipshutz. His essay is titled "Enantioselective Construction of Spirocycles Containing All-Carbon Quaternary Centers." Sponsor: Boehringer Ingelheim.
